Welcome Home!

A very dear friend moved into her forever home. So what does a Calligrapher do but create a work of art for her to hang and enjoy for years to come. Her favorite color is periwinkle, which is a tough color to find in handmade papers, so I combined it with her other favorites purple and shades of magenta. I had never created a triptych (three pieces in a set) before, so this was a fun challenge.

I searched for a thought provoking statement that she could read for years and years and not get tired, but become inspired. The quote is as follows: There are really three parts to the creative process, first there is inspiration, then there is execution, and finally there is release (Eddie Van Halen). She loved the piece so much we hung it up that afternoon. It is always a joy to create something for someone and KNOW that they enjoy it, and will savor it for years to come.

Our home is our haven. It is where we recharge, love, share our joys and woes, and where we cherish each and every space. We value beautiful spaces, one of a kind things, and the creativity a wonderful place to live can provide. There is something special that happens when you close the door behind you and know that you are home. It’s like seeing an old friend who knows you to your very core. Being able to create art for people who hang it on their walls and cherish it every time they see it, that is an amazing gift.

So what do you have in your home that makes you utter a sigh of relief and give thanks? What inspires you, encourages you, reminds you of your talents and gifts? What ‘things’ do you have around you that remind you of stories, cherished people, or loved family? I hope that your home is your haven, the place where you want to leave for an adventure and can’t wait to get back to and rest. Many blessings to those who are making a new home in a new place; enjoy this part of your journey, and welcome home.
