An Amazing Reflection

Standing in front of a small pond I could see everything around it purely by absorbing it’s reflection. The bright sun lit everything up as if to say, “See what I can do!” The trees seemed to be stretching upward to show off, the clouds moved a bit more slowly so I could bask in their glory, and the wind stopped as if to protect the moment allowing me to see everything in one glorious moment. Life is made up of these special moments. I don’t remember what day it was, or why I was near the pond. the purpose of this moment seemed to be to remind me to savor beauty wherever I can find it.

The pond served as an amazing reflection of the beauty around it, as if it’s sole purpose was to be a solid replica of the original. Children provide the same view and insight, so do spouses and family. Whether we like it or not these people in our lives reflect how we treat them. The life, love or darkness within their eyes reflect the life we have provided and created over the years. Our loves shows up in all they do; our neglect cannot be ignored when challenges arise.

I know a man who grew up poor, neglected, and fearful of his alcoholic father. He spent years forgiving and working to be a different sort of man for his wife and children. He wanted their lives to be different than the one he experienced. He worked hard to unlearn the abuse, gather the wisdom to know how to live and love differently, and he focused on the positive each and every day. His daughter just got home from college and she told him she was glad to be home to be able to spend time just hanging out with him. I would say her love and joy for life are an amazing reflection of his efforts, hard work and encompassing love.

The people around us reflect the life we have lived like this pond reflects the amazing beauty around it. Our lives have a story to tell and the people who tell it more than us are the ones we have influenced over the years. When others look into our world they see how we have lived and how we have loved, or how we have squandered the joy. What do people see when they look at the people who serve as a reflection of your life? Today is a good day to grow the view or change what you have been doing. It is never too late to work on an amazing reflection.
