We’ve all experienced some pretty messed up situations. We’ve been prevented from being who we are by stereotypes, stupid people, and walls all around us. This daffodil in our greenhouse – in the bag of bulbs I forgot to plant last fall – found a way to bloom anyway. It worked it’s way out of the bag and in the midst of no one paying any attention sprouted to life AND is going to bloom. THAT to me is true perseverance, courage and determination. It reminded me that no matter the situation or circumstances that prevent you from being able to thrive, thrive anyway.
This bloom is about two months late, compared to the ones I actually planted…but who cares? It is the one that will stick in my mind for years to come. It is the one that didn’t let its circumstances, poor position, or lack of caring stop it from doing what it does best. Even being near the bottom of the bag didn’t prevent it from doing what it does best, and what it does best is bloom! It found a way and just let it rip!
There are miraculous stories of people overcoming incredible odds. Life changing stories, life threatening stories, even stories where others were causing them harm…but they blossomed anyway. No one ever said that growing up and becoming who you were meant to be would be easy. If it were easy everyone would do it; and we know that most people coast through life and leave their gifts sitting on the shelf. And of course there are lots of reasons why people don’t do…yet there are even better reasons to overcome and do it anyway.
I don’t know where you are in life, or what is preventing you from being your best self. And yes there are days when life really sucks…when you feel forgotten, unwanted, and find yourself at the bottom of the bag. We all feel that way. Don’t kid yourself, no one has it better than you all the time…everyone has their own version of bottom of the bag days. That’s not the issue. The REAL issue is what is preventing YOU from blooming anyway? Maybe the tapes in your head or the experiences you have had in the past make you think that you can’t make it, that you are not worthy, that you are forgotten and unimportant. Bloom anyway. Maybe you feel so broken that you are not sure how to get going; just do one thing to move forward and see what happens…then bloom anyway. And when no one pays attention, when they care and water every other living thing around you and never give you a second thought…bloom anyway. Bringing out your best no matter your circumstances will get you attention, prove the world wrong, and remind those around you to never again sell you short. Like every flower created there is beauty inside you…so bloom, bloom bloom!!!
