I needed a mental reset today. I was doing paperwork and such, the stuff we all want to avoid yet as adults have not option but to get it done. When I finished and wanted to relax, we went to the movies. For me it is the perfect way to forget, relax, and rest my brain. For only a couple hours I am able to mentally check out of my world and check into another. It is the best way I know to reset my mind and clear the way for new things to happen.
I also use the movies to release my emotions. I have ‘cry’ movies that I know will make me weep, no matter how many times I have seen them. They force me to have a good cry, and usually that is all I need to reset. I have ‘the world is okay’ movies that provide a way for me to cheer and be reminded that good things happen. And I have the old standbys, the ones that I could recite most of the dialogue by heart, and these allow me to settle down and release my stress.
So how do you reset? Do you exercise, eat, spend time with people, or do something else? I hope by now you have figured out what you need to do to deal with being an adult. For me, it’s the movies. I am grateful for the creative people who make movies. They serve a wonderful purpose and allow us to imagine that anything is possible. They let us know that life is not all about paperwork, and that tomorrow will be another day and it will work out.
