It Really Matters

We all believe in one thing or another. Sometimes we tell people, and some things we keep to ourselves. What we believe can be a very private thing, a personal thing, something we hold dear and defines our existence. And sometimes what we believe is not the same as the people around us, so we hold it inside in order to avoid unnecessary conflict or strike.

There are things we all say we believe in – freedom of speech, honesty is the best police, integrity in all things even when no one is looking. I note that we ‘say’ believe these things because our actions do not always align with them. We talk about freedom of speech, as long as the people are saying what we agree with; but that is not freedom of speech. Freedom means you can say ANYTHING and not fear imprisonment or malice. We talk about honesty being the best policy and yet we tell little white lies or omit sections to tell the truth we want people to hear. There are not versions of the truth, there is the whole truth all the time; which means we may have to tell things that make us look less than what we want. And we want integrity in all things yet all too often we behave less than with integrity when we think no one will find out. We do things that erode our integrity when they reach the light; that is not integrity in ALL things.

What we believe needs to match how we behave, whether we are being watched or not. Our beliefs can’t be like watching unicorns or chasing rainbows, they need to be a material part of who we are and how we behave. Our actions need to support our beliefs and serve as a tangible example that what we believe really matters.
