My Dad, Bill Moore (booth #1320) is exhibiting at the American Craft Council Show this weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. We set up his booth today in record time. This may not seem amazing to you, so let me tell you one more thing…my Dad will turn eighty-seven next month. I hope to be breathing at that age let alone creating art and working a show! He takes away everyone’s excuses.
This year his granddaughter and her husband (Ash & Aric) are joining us on our show adventure. They have attended shows as patrons, but never participated from the behind the scenes perspective. They have become an integral part of our team. It is great to be able to share the business, planning and artistic side of this show. They will get to learn and enjoy everything from both sides. They have already asked really great questions and are pondering this life and work with all sorts of thoughts. It is wonderful to watch them learn from their grandfather and grandmother.
It is interesting to look at the world from the perspective of someone who has never been exposed to it. You see things you have overlooked for years and you become refreshed by the excitement in their eyes. Their energy is contagiuos and inspiring and reminds you why you do the crazy things you do. They soak up the adventure and challenges like a. sponge. It is fun to tell the stories and share the lessons.
So who are you teaching and guiding to do what you do? Have you given them a chance to observe you in action? What door can you open for the next generation that will have lasting repercussions for decades to come? What do you know simply because you learned how to get there, and how can you transfer that knowledge to someone who wants to learn? Sometimes all it takes it time, energy and letting them see you in action. Let their fresh set of eyes remind you why you love what you do.
