We live in a time when our lives move at warp speed. We cram as much as we can into a day, a week, a month in order to get done everything we need, want, can get done. We are over scheduled, pressed for time, and working harder each day to get closer to our goals. At that pace, no wonder the USA has more deaths due to heart attack than any other nation on the globe. We’ve done it to ourselves and have a hard time slowing down.
Maybe there isn’t time to slow down or take a nap; maybe all you need is to blow off some steam. Do something physical or a mental release that relieves some of the pressure. Kick boxing, bike riding, running, walking, knitting, or maybe even going to a comedy club. Whatever it is that helps you relieve the tension and stress, be sure to make time to do just that. There needs to be some way in your life to open the valve and let the built up pressure out. Not all of us can go on vacation to do that, so how do you build it into your week so that you don’t explode at the wrong time?
I know, you are over scheduled as it is, so how in the world can you add one more thing into your time frame? Here’s what I would ask you to think about. If you do not relieve the stress or pressure you are feeling, do you want to be the person that lack of release creates? Do you want to have a short fuse, a blow up, or a blow out? Do you want to wear yourself down to a point that no matter how hard you work you can no longer produce at a normal or low level? Eventually, the stress will catch up and you will feel, see, experience the effects. So do you still not have time to do something to relieve your stress? I think you can figure out a way.
And what example are you setting for the people in your life if all you do is work and get stressed out? They see it. You might think you are hiding it, but you are not fooling anyone but yourself. They know you are close to the edge and how it is impacting who you are becoming. By setting aside time to relieve your own pressures you are giving those around you license to do the same.
So go out and take a deep breath, walk, run, bike, knit, or create; whatever it is, do it to let your mind and body recover from the world you have created. Your stress level is showing and only getting worse. Blow off some steam and feel the difference in both your head and your heart. The people in your world will give thanks and welcome the real you back with open arms. Stop kidding yourself, no one can do it all.
