Wash & Fold

I had lunch with a dear friend today and she told me about ‘wash and fold’. I had no idea what she was taking about. She told me about being overwhelmed with all the laundry the had built up while her family was sick, so she paid to have someone else wash, fold and iron all the laundry. It was only about $30. I had no idea such a service existed, and was amazed at the brilliance of her solution. Her burden was lifted, the clothes were clean, and her family had the much necessary time to rest from the chores of daily life.

It made me realize that you can pay people to do almost anything. They need the work and you need the service. Wash and fold was just one example of how people are relieving themselves of certain aspects of life AND turning those chores into a win-win proposition. What a brilliant way to relieve the pressure and help someone else make a living. For the over scheduled, the ill equipped, the sick, the tired, or those that just need help getting back to even, what a great idea to pay for services that can really save the day.

Because as we all know, no one can do it all. Let me say that again…no one can do it all. If they tell you they can, run away from the lying snake. Their version of the world doesn’t actually exist for anyone. NO ONE can do it all, or have it all all the time. It’s one of the illusions of life that no one tells you and you figure it out after about six months of mortgage payments and the refrigerator fails. Times get tight for us all, healthy days get corrupted by cold and flu season, and over scheduled lives wear us all down at one time or another. Just when you think you are the only one feeling this way, your dear friends mentions wash and fold and the clouds reveal a brighter day.

I don’t know if I will ever use this service, yet just knowing that these kinds of places exist makes my world seem less overwhelming. Everyone needs help at one time or another. Everyone gets behind for a plethora of reasons. Everyone needs a break now and then. And everyone needs a way to pay their bills and earn a living. Put all that together and someone is out there and can help you dig out or resolve your dilemma. All you have to do is admit you need a break, a different perspective or fresh eyes, and the problem can be solved that same day. Whew, thank you wash and fold for even existing and providing a way to keep the wheels spinning in this mad, mad, mad world.
