This year I was invited to a closed Facebook group for calligraphers. This is the third year the group has been in existence. Each week we receive a prompt and have to create a piece of work inspired by the prompt. I plan to share this journey with you as a topic on my blog as it relates to creativity and accountability. This is my first submission. The prompt was BEGIN…
There are so many words that come to mind about beginnings. This quote from Alfred, Lord Tennyson made me think of the possibilities a new year brings. I tend to be a glass half full kind of gal. I see the possibilities and opportunities in front of us, more so than most people. In fact I am more than just a glass half full thinker, I am excited that there is even a glass!
The idea of being committed to creating a piece each week and being held accountable to post is a daunting idea. This is not for light weights. If you do not keep up, you are out of the group. I wanted a new challenge this year, so I accepted the invitation and look forward to the challenge. People are already sharing their work, and it is truly amazing. Part of me feels I am in good standing, another part thinks I am in over my head. But isn’t that what growing is all about? We do not become a better version of ourselves if we are surrounded by people just like us. By putting ourselves out there and being in the presence of people who’s skills are better, more advanced, or even beyond our own THAT is when we step up and learn. A rising tide raises all ships…so you have to get in the water in order to experience the rising tide.
So it begins…stay tuned and see how my work and year progresses!
