Let the Joy Back In

Some old tires, a recycled tractor seat and a little vision created a really fun play area for kids. It’s a fun way to ignite the imagination of children without actually putting them on a tractor. What a creative way to give them the experience of driving, farming, growing things. Kids would be able to imagine themselves driving a tractor without actually having to be on a farm.

There is something special that happens to us all when we learn to drive. We gain independence, self reliance, and a sense of freedom. Suddenly we can go where we want, when we want, with whomever we want. It’s as if we are the master of our own domain and the possibilities are endless. I remember learning to drive and the first few weeks I was able to drive without anyone else in the car, it was amazing. I got lost a couple times and had uncertainty, yet none of that could negate the sense of freedom and power I now had over my world.

As I got older the privilege of driving became no big deal. I did it almost everyday and on some occasions it became a hassle and annoyance. Back and forth, to and fro, here and there and back again. Traffic, crazy drivers, car payments and insurance, commuting with all the other people stuck in traffic. The endless wear and tear on the car and me soon made driving no more fun. The magic was gone and it had simply become a chore. Then one afternoon my hubby and I drive with the windows down along a tree covered country road. We see farmland and beautiful sky, we listen to peaceful music and chat along the way. We remember the freedom driving provides and we fondly remember the sense of excitement and joy a drive creates.

I encourage you to remember the fun you once had when you learned to drive. Apply that same experience to other things we learned earlier in life, and let the fun back into our daily activities. Let this serve as a reminder to let the joy and fun back into your world.
