Buy, Bite and Expect the Best

I met a friend at a local coffee shop and faced a choice. Black and white cookie or homemade iced sugar cookie? While I drank my peppermint hot chocolate I pondered and thought. Which one would go better with my mood? Which one would better satisfy my sweet tooth? Which one would taste just like I wanted it to taste? It’s a risk buying unknown baked goods when you want one really bad. Do you take the risk or wait for the sure thing?

This baked good choice made me think of how I evaluate other risks. Do I go with what I know or do I move into the unknown? And when do I regularly play it safe, and when am I willing to risk big? When am I willing to move beyond what I know and when do I go with only what I know will deliver? I also realize I need to look back and see if I have a pattern when taking risks, and if so what is that pattern? Are there topics where I am more willing to risk – like fashion or food? And are there places where I only play it safe – like money or family? And where do I want, need, hope to risk more in the future?

All this ran through my head as I was making this baked good decision. Which by the way, I passed on. I hoped that there would be yummy baked goods at our later event. I was disappointed as there were no baked goods, not one. I missed out on delighting my sweet tooth; playing it safe was the wrong move. Next time I take the risk…I buy, bite and expect the best.
