Do you remember what it was like to play in the snow and make snow angels? To expend your energy and giggles madly moving back and forth, knowing that when you got up the perfect angel will have been created. I remember walking around checking to see where there was untouched snow in order to dive down and flap my appendages like mad. These are the childhood memories and experiences I cherish. They remind me that the little moments of freedom we had as children helped shape our souls.
When I saw this little one in a snow suit making a snow angel, it made me smile. I thought of all the children who do this exact same thing every Winter during the first snow fall, the last snow fall, and every snow fall in between. They can’t imagine NOT expressing their joy this way. The call of the snow is beyond their control.
When was the last time you lost control in a snow bank? Or lost control by playing in the rain? Or splashed in a mud puddle just because you could? Or kicked and rolled in a pile of leaves simply to see them flutter away in the wind? The joys of no responsibilities, no bills, no emails, and no one expecting you to do anything other than play. The freedom to express yourself and make a mess of everything and nothing all at the same time. And when you are done, no one cares or comments, except to want to do that exact same thing you just did.
I wish for you this week to have a snow bank, muddle puddle, rain storm, pile of leaves fun filled day….if only for a moment. Sometimes one fun filled moment is all we need to change our souls.
