My husband and I saw this sign in a store, we both laughed out loud. It’s funny and true at the same time. The simple truth about self awareness is knowing which one applies to you. Are you the person people want to see enter because they know that you will indeed bring happiness into the room? They know that if you are involved things will go well and get better. Or are you the person people are relieved when you leave the room? They endure your presence because they don’t want to start anything. They know that if you are involved it is going to be a fight, you have to be right, and things have to go your way.
The only way we know in which category we fit is by having the courage to ask. By creating an environment where people are free to be honest with us we demonstrate that we value their insights and opinion. That openness builds a foundation upon which a solid relationship can be built. We also have to realize that the truth can sting a little. People may tell us things that we don’t want to hear or accept…if we hear it, the expectation is that we will be willing to change and do better.
So which one are you? And are you consistent everywhere you go, or do certain groups rub you the wrong way? And do you have the guts to find out? Ask for some feedback today to begin your own journey to self awareness.
