Bounce Back!

It can be hard to bounce back after disappointment or disaster. We had a flood in our Canton gallery, and the renovation process was a disaster. The construction, the painting, the walls and the cleaning of the floor took WAY too long. We had to ask the vendor to come make multiple times to make it right. Everything was covered with dust and nothing was in any sense of order. This week we cleaned it all back up….and we’re back in business. We reinvented our space and put everything back together.

Whew! It was both a mental and physical challenge getting back in the game. I had to allow myself to get angry then deal with that anger. I had to get over the frustration and lack of control. I had to finally just push up my sleeves and dig into the mess. I think the most frustrating part was the fact that vendors were paid to make it right and fell far from anywhere near a job well done…it wasn’t even mediocre. They disrespected our space and provided poor service. We were left wanting and in a horrible mess.

I felt like a victim and a fool. I had no control over the outcome and wanted to stream (actually I did!) Then I let the frustration turn into hard work, and just got it done. And now that we are back and ready for customers; I am relieved and rejuvenated. The work wore me out and energized me at the same time. I have new ideas and concepts I want to produce, and new ideas for marketing and reaching out to our loyal client base. The worst part is over, so it is time to move forward in joy.

What do you do when you have reached the pinnacle of frustration? How do you turn it around? How do you bounce back from it all? Do you run, or scream, clean the top of your refrigerator or vacuum your carpet until it squeaks? What ever you do, do it quickly. We spend too much time in our heads pondering the ups and downs which only delays the work it takes to get back into the  game. Your world, your ideas, and the people you love are worth getting over it and getting it done.
