This purple pencil case is grape scented…I’m not kidding. There was an entire bin selling scented pencil cases. I had no idea anything like this existed. I wonder if when you use it your pencils end up smelling like grapes?
When I saw it I thought about the person who had the idea to create a scented pencil case. Did they create one for themselves then share it with friends? Did they test different scents and only use the viable ones? Did they test them with target groups? How did they get the scent to last? All sorts of things go into developing a new product, more than most of us begin to imagine. People all over the globe are developing things we have never even thought we needed. That’s what makes capitalism such an amazing process.
It takes courage to create something new. It takes stamina and the ability to forego what other people think. It means putting some things aside while you get your new thing off the ground. It means seeing things differently then the way they are now. It means taking a risk and working towards a new future. It means leaving the path everyone else is on and finding a different way to build your life.
My guess is that the person who invited scented pencil cases had a lot of negative to deal with. They had a lot of people tell them why it won’t work or how they can’t do it, or people telling them they will get bored and quit. As the saying goes, success is the best revenge. I hope once this product hit the market they sent one to every nay sayer they know.
There will always be people who do not see what you see. There will always be people who do not understand your vision or passion. And there will ways be people who will support your ideas no matter what. Find the people who support you and let the rest fend for themselves…or send them a scented pencil case for their next birthday gift. If this product can make it, anything is possible.
