After All Else Fails, Read the Sign

I saw this door and realized that someone failed to read the sign, or failed to act on what they read. The sing near the door knob clearly says to keep the door locked at all times, yet the door is clearly open for anyone to use it freely. Did they not read, or did they not think?

How many times do we read something then think, nah I’ll do it my own way? I know better, I can do this my way and still succeed. We think we are smarter than the sign or the instructions. We think we have experience and can handle this one on our own. Then somewhere in the middle of getting the job done we realize that something is missing, something went wrong. So we dig back out the instructions and read to figure out how to fix things and get the job done.

When we actively choose to read something and not follow the instructions, are we simply being rebellious? Are we being stupid? Are we ignoring the wisdom of those who went before us? Are we being arrogant, or maybe it is some combinaiton of all of that. By reading and then choosing to do the opposite we are tempting fate and asking for surprises…all of which may not be positive. The instructions are there for a reason. Someone who went before figured out how or why things work, then they documented it all for someone in the future.

When all else fails, follow the instructions, at least give them a shot. They could save you time, energy, money, and personal humiliation. They may also simply keep you safe. Reading is a gift, so use it to your benefit every chance you get.
