I spotted this man in Old Town Kyoto carrying his wares home at the end of the day. I imagined that he walked this path many times moving to and from during his lifetime. I wondered what he thought about as he walked this amazing path. As he walked it so many times, did he even notice the beauty anymore? Did he lose his way in thought? Or did he travel this way especially so he could enjoy the greenery?
How many times do we travel the same way back and forth, and never actually see the beauty around us? Or we get so lost in thought that we forget how we got to our destination? Each day we travel so many roads, streets, walkways and are glad they get us from one place to another. How about being grateful for the path? Being grateful to have choices and methods of travel that get us safely home.
Life is full of options, roads, journeys and destinations. All too often we get so focused on the goal that we forget to treasure the beauty and lessons we learn along the way. That may sound a little cliche, and it is. Many poems or signs or songs have been written about the path we take. And yes, we all have a choice of which path we will travel. Today I challenge you to take the same way your always do BUT enjoy the beauty along that well traveled road. Slow down and glance at the way you get home. Notice the trees, the flowers, the buildings and the people. Notice what you overlook everyday, and today do not overlook it. Like this man on his way home, be intentional in what you see and why you chose this path. It only takes a moment to see, so today take the moment and REALLY see.
