I had dinner with a friend in a restaurant that used to be a bank. When you take over an old bank building, what do you do with the vault? You turn it into a private dining space. I love the fact that these restaurateurs thought outside the box and made something fun of a very confined space.
What do you do when you are put into a box? Some of people thrive in small spaces. They enjoy the freedom and peace they experience in small, intimate areas. I have a friend who moved from a large house to a much smaller house, eventhough her family was growing. She and her husband found they preferred the intimacy of the smaller home with less maintenance and stuff to maintain. They spent more time together as a family because there we re not as many spaces for teh kids to retreat into their technology.
Some people thrive in larger space. They enjoy the options more area can provide and the ability to spread out. Another friend moved into a much larger home with multiple buildings. Her family wanted a multiptude of offerings in terms of space for everyone to do any and everything they wanted. They are blessed to be able to maintain it all and do not mind the effort and energy it takes to keep everything going.
In what kind of space do you thrive? Do you need big area or do you prefer small spaces? Do you like comfy or ultra sleek? Or maybe some combination of it all. Some of us have a choice where we live, and others live where we can afford which may not mean much choice. Some of us do not need anything in particlular, we simply need to plug in to get things done. And some need to be in a creative space – like an old bank vault – in order to get our creative juices going. Knowing enough about yourself to know where you thrive can make the difference between frustration and success. Big spaces or small areas, know what makes you feel more like you.
