We were tired and hot in Asakusa, Japan, so we sat under a pergola that had misting sprays. It was shaded and cool, and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. Many locals were siting there with us, being still and savoring the serenity. It wasn’t until I looked up that I noticed the beauty of the wisteria vines above us. As I looked up others noticed me looking up, so they looked up. The next thing you know lots of people were looking up.
Trends are nothing more than someone going first. Someone seeing things from a different perspective. It takes one person to look around, or down, or up and to think about the options that new direction provides. Their courage or insight, or in this case their fatigue may provide the exact moment when seeing things just a little differently can open up new avenues.
As I sat under this amazing web of branches and leaves, I wondered how many people had sat there over the years and never looked up. How many people enjoyed the cool mist then moved on? That’s not a bad thing, they simply missed another amazing view. All too often we miss things in life because we are too busy or too set in our ways to stop and ponder doing things just a little differently. Next time you are sitting still, just look up. Check out what is going on around you from a different perspective. You may be amazed and what you see and what doors it opens for others as well.
