I travel a lot and use many public restrooms across the globe. Just when you think you have seen it all, you get a surprise. I was in an airport restroom and picked up my phone from the shelf in the stall. I somehow glanced underneath the shelf and found these stickers. If the date is correct, then they have been stuck to the underside of the shelf for over four years. It appears as if multiple people have made a contribution to the shelf over the years. Almost like a bathroom collage.
As I headed out to pick up my bags, I thought about this bathroom surprise. Who had started the fun, and what made them post stickers under a bathroom shelf? It’s a little kooky, a little silly, and something the majority of people will never see. I thought about the women who had extra stickers in theri bag to contribute. They had to see the first one, dig out their extra one, then put it in place…all while using the bathroom. I’m sure they giggled upon exiting and wondered who would ever see their act of mischief.
I instantly liked these ladies. They were crafty and fun, and worked to make someone else smile by leaving a piece of themselves in an obscure public space. Some might see that as vandalism. Some might be disturbed that they did it in a bathroom. I am slightly bothered that no one has seen it to clean them off. How long have they been there? And who else has had the fun I had finding this elusive work of art? I was tired at the end of my trip and popped into the restroom before my drive home. This mishmash provided some spunk for the end of a long day.
Do something quirky today, something unexpected. Something to brighten some else’s day…with no reward or recognition for you. Do it just to be fun and add the element of surprise to a stranger’s day.
