We all have choices of the doors we pass through in life. Some offer great excitement and opportunity on the other side. Some bring only heartache. Some lead to long hallways or dingy rooms. Some lead to expansive sun lit rooms and garden vistas. Sometimes we don’t know what is behind a door until we get through it. Other times we know what lies on the other side, and we know the best choice is to head straight and close the door behind us.
Some doors are locked for good reason, yet we try to ‘gimmie’ them open…and when we succeed, we shouldn’t be surprised when what was behind the door was better left alone. Most of the time once we are through the door there is no turning back…we have to live with the choice we have made. Our lives are the products of the doors we have chosen to go through and the resulting circumstances we then face.
When I look back on my life, there are doors I should have been more cautious about opening…and others I should have opened more quickly. There are doors I regret and doors I passed by. And yet each of those doors and how I interacted with them has made me who I am today. I’m not always proud of my choices and yet being a grown up means I have to live with them…life is too short to spend it in regret. Learn what the door has to teach you and move forward.
What about the doors in your world? What about the choices you have made? Today when you have the choice to open, close, pass by or jump through a door…whatever you choose, embrace it and move forward in joy!
