Inspiration:

There are times when you just need French Fries…salty, crispy and yet tender, hot and very addictive. We had some today and they were perfect. And I do mean perfect! They were the fries you hope for every time you order them and this time they exceeded every expectation.

As I drove home I thought about the times I order fries and get mediocre. I eat them, and yet still want more. I leave full and yet not satisfied. It’s not just food that makes me feel this way…people, situations, opportunities…they can all leave me wanting more. The challenge is do I voice my disappointment or find another way to fill the void? I think each situation is different and it takes maturity, kindness and savvy to decide which way to go. When we voice our disappointment, not everyone will understand or react the way we expect. Some will get angry, some will feel hurt, some will need more time to process. Voicing our challenges may make us feel better and yet we do not want to leave dead bodies in our wake.

On the other hand we have a choice as to how to fill the void. If this person, situation, or opportunity leaves you wanting more you have the ability to keep working until you are satisfied. One person cannot be ALL things to us…we need different people in our lives to provide different input, ideas, talents, and adventures. One situation does not define every opportunity. Life is a living cavalcade of endless chances. The key is to be ready when an opportunity arises, and go for it. One time you may experience everything you need professionally and personally. Other times you may like only portions of things. And still other excursions won’t last long and leave you feeling a little flat when they end. The true talent is knowing how to leverage the good, leave the bad and avoid the ugly. And yet when life comes along you don’t always have a view into how it will turn out. So keep trying, keep being open for the next adventure…and keep working.

Life is a lot like eating French Fries. You have to appreciate the ones that satisfy, eat the ones that are filling but less flavorful, and completely savor the joy and excitement that is the perfect order. One bad order does not mean I will give up eating fries…if you don’t succeed, keep ordering…and note where the bad ones were and don’t eat there again.
