Inspiration: For No Other Reason

We end up at a lot of shows, festivals and antique markets hunting for ‘stuff’ for our gallery locations. Some have better food than others. When you see people readily standing in line, willing to wait for fried food…you know lunch is gonna be good. Usually the challenge is where to sit.

On this particular Saturday, my husband tried the hot fried catfish while I ate friend chicken. I scoped the place for an empty table and he handled the food. The meal was above average, the table was the pits. It was dirty and very wobbly, so much so that we had to take turns holding it steady while the other one ate with a fork. We managed it and promptly left so another couple could have our seats. But first, my husband went to the bathroom and brought back wet paper towels to wipe off the table for the new residents…while they were already sitting there. If you could have seen the face on the guy, he didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t believe my husband worked that hard to clean the surface just to give up the table. He obviously doesn’t know my husband…a good guy all the way down to his toenails.

There are many bumper stickers around talking about ‘random acts of kindness’ yet few people actually do them. And when you do show kindness for no reason other than being kind, people are dumbfounded. I find it sad that we have become cynical on so many levels. That ‘nice’ is scarce and ‘kind’ is a word used in slogans more than an action we practice or value we teach our children. I think it’s time to change all that.

Your challenge today is to perform a kind act for no other reason than to be kind. Don’t tell anyone what you are going to do, don’t tell anyone when you did it…seek no praise at all. Just a simple random act to plant seeds of positivity out there amongst the people. Let the kind act be your reward…then go eat some yummy fried food on a clean table top. Enjoy kindess at all levels for no other reason than to be kind.
