Inspiration: Year after Year after Year

Here are two of my favorite bunnies that sit out every Easter. I looked forward to seeing them every year when I was a child. Now that I am an adult, I put them out for others to enjoy. They make me smile and think about my Grandmother Moore who had them first, and they have survived over fifty years of holiday celebrations.

The one of the left has holes for eyes and in the bunch of flowers he carries. He is supposed to be a flower vase of some kind, yet he is hollow…how that works I don’t know. On the bottom he bears a date of 1951. The bunny on the right was a gift from Pat Jones to my Grandmother in 1962…I only turned that over today to actually read the inscription. I have no idea who Pat Jones was, yet her handiwork is sitting on my kitchen counter for all of us to admire.

If you create something, anything…do you ever wonder what will happen to it after you are gone? Will it end up in a box, or at Goodwill, or on some kitchen counter year after year after year? Maybe it will be cherished, maybe it will be broken, maybe it will become a family heirloom. Wherever it ends up, it is still worth making.

The joy you expereince when you create and the pleasure your item brings to those who buy it or receive it as a gift is beyond measure. Never let the fear of what will happen in the future stop you from creating today. None of us knows what tomorrow will bring, so create today and let the next generation enjoy your work year after year after year…
