This is a close up of a piece of Box Elder wood. This particular piece of wood had a virus. How can you tell? The color in the wood is a natural reaction to the tree working to fend off the virus. So the Red is what happened when the tree worked to protect itself. What a beautiful result of a terrible infection.
We all reach moments in life when we have to protect ourselves. We get challenged, we get overwhelmed, we get to a place where all we want to do is run and hide. We’ve all been there. These are the moments in life when a warm bed and a blanket pulled over our head is all we want…for a long period of time. The challenge is really about how long we choose to stay in these low tide moments. We can linger and pout and wallow…and sometimes we want to stay there because it seems easier than fighting back.
And yet, in the long run, we only get what we want when we are willing to fight for it. We win when we muster the strength to get out from under the covers and tackle the challenge. We move forward when we choose to change and grow and allow life to be different. Like this piece of box elder, with beautiful stripes from fighting off a virus, your life can change and be more colorful when you gather the courage to fight back. So I encourage you today to fight back, make your world a blend of different colors so your future is different than you ever imagined.
