This is Miss Mary, a very adorable flower girl. Of all the things she liked about her outfit, it was her shoes she loved best. Her Mom told me she wore them at home all the time. She is pictured here with her Aunt, who actually helped her walk down the aisle…ok, it was more like a carry, but both went down the aisle together.
What this photo made me think of was the special occasions when we dress up…when a special event in life requires special clothing. Sometimes those occasions are few and far between. Sometimes they are monthly, sometimes they seem as if they happen all too often. There seem to be phases in life when special occasions happen more than others – weddings happen as our peer group starts getting married. Baby showers happen as our friends start growing their families. Funerals become more frequent as we all grow older. Then there are the annual holidays – New Year’s Eve, Easter, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Thanksgiving or Christmas. For most of us, these types of occasions give us the opportunity to wear a speacial outfit.
I would encourage you today to think a little differently. Why is it only on a special occasion that we dress special? Isn’t life worth dressing up? Instead of waiting for a special time, MAKE something a special time. Go to the movies dressed up…or dinner, or maybe a play? Make yourself feel special by dressing up, even if it is just for yourself. Your life is worth it.
