Inspiration 301: The Things You Touch…

My husband once said that REAL art does not have glitter…so I post this message in his honor. I saw this sign and it made me laugh. In my world glitter is not a commonly utilized item…at least not on stuff I use in my house. I don’t have kids at home creating posters or crafts or handmade items they want to dazzle. I don’t use glitter in my art, unless it already happens to be part of a piece or scrap of paper. And I rarely receive gifts or items that have glitter. So why is glitter so controversial? I find it polarizes people on so many levels.

Think about it – tiny flecks of shiny metal can make grown men moan. It makes children scream with joy, it makes those who vaccuum sigh in disgust, and it makes dull things sparkle! It adds fun to costumes, makes a headband into a tiara, and it will make a dull evening shine with color and delight. What an amazing thing…and it’s just gets glued onto things to make them better. Maybe the real power of glitter is that it improves things it touches…if you like glitter that is.

Maybe if more things had that impact – improved things they touch – the world would be a better place. Instead of brilliant people using their powers to steal, lie, cheat, degrade, or bully…they could be like glitter and only improve what they touch. So today let glitter be your inspiration…only improve the things you touch.
