Sorry vegetarians, this is indeed meat! And lots of it…I found these hanging in a great hot dog restaurant in Watkins Glen, NY. The meal we had was yummy, in fact my husband and son in law devoured their hot dogs in record time. This place even had homemade Poutine…for the Canadian in all of us.
While we were waiting for our order I saw this cooler, and looked long and hard at the elaborate strings and portions. I was struck by how much effort it must have taken for someone to prepare each meat item by hand. As a frequent grocery store shopper, I often overlook the effort it takes to actually prepare the food we buy. Obviously none of the meat in this picture was processed, so it would have taken more time, more effort, more planning than the deli meat from a grocery store. I can say we tasted the difference in our meal. The fresheness and flavor were outstanding!
Today I ask you to celebrate those who make food from scratch. The bakers, farmers, butchers, and growers of all foods. They are the behind the scenes people who take their time and energy to make delicious items for us consumers to eat…hooray! If you have a choice in your area to eat local and handmade, by all means do it today. You may have to drive a little farther or pay a bit more, no doubt it will be worth it!
