Inspiration 206: Be Willing to Make the Change

Traffic – when you are caught in it, it is the worst…especially if you need to be somewhere by a certain time. I took this shot one afternoon while we were trying to get home. We figured there was an accident or construction, hence the slow moving mass of vehicles. It was neither of those. The backup was due to a car that was sitting on the left shoulder because it had a flat tire. A police car had pulled up behind it with it’s blue lights flashing…so everyone had to slow down to see what was happening. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?! Those were my exact words to my husband as we then sailed past the bottleneck.

What is it about drivers and slowing down to check out the accident? Why do we do that? The positive side of me would like to think that we are slowing down in case we can help; but, let’s get real – that is almost never the case. Is it curiosity? Is it morbid curiosity? Is it boredom? Why do people slow to a crawl for no good reason? It happens all the time, and can be very frustrating for all.

As we were stuck in traffic, I wondered how many times have I done some odd thing that caused a back up for others? When have my actions – for whatever reason – caused someone else pain? It’s that blind spot in our lives that we don’t see, can’t see, won’t see…when our actions hurt others. Today I challenge you to have the courage to peek into the blind spots of your life and stop blocking traffic. You may not realize how what oyu do impacts others…so ask for feedback and be willing to make the change.
