Inspiration 179: A Little Ice and Liquid

If you do not recognize this drink, it is a mint julip. My husband enjoyed this at dinner one evening when we were out with friends. He said it was refreshing and very cold.

Mint Julip – when I hear that I think about eras gone by where Southern women and men sat on the front porch trying to stay cool because air conditioning had not been invented.  It makes me understand better the mounds of ice. It also makes me think about conversation and enjoying time with people. Does the liquor in the drink solicit engagement or only supplement what would naturally occur? Either way, people are talking and enjoying each other.

What do you order when eating out that helps you enjoy time with people? Is it a drink, an appetizer, or a big basket of piping hot rolls? Do you have a standard, or are you adventurous? Do you rely on others to order, or do you plunge right into the menu? Next time you are eating with people, stop to enjoy them AND the ambiance a little ice and liquid help create.
