Today is my parent’s wedding anniversary. They have been married 55 years. That’s half a century plus five more years. I also have a dear friend who has a birthday today, he is 55…also half a century plus five. That’s an amazing amount of time to be married and to be alive. I can only imagine the great stories and adventures these people have experienced.
It made me think about how we start so many things in our lives, like boarding an airplane. You make your plans and know what the end goal is, yet sometimes the journey doesn’t go exactly as you planned. There are delays due to weather, over booked flights, late passengers, long lines getting through security, and sometimes you even get bumped up to first class. Eventually you make it to your destination, maybe not always as you had planned….but you do get there.
What would you do with half a century plus five more years? Maybe you have already lived longer than that. If not, like me you hope to get there. I think sometimes we get so excited about getting to the destination that we forget to savor the journey. We forget to actually experience the here and now because we are sooooo focused on getting there. I took this picture to remind me to savor the journey. Take time to look out the window, ponder your day and be grateful for being alive. Be the one who can tell the great stories after half a century plus five simply because you paid attention to your life during your life.
