Bookbinding

2 small books, approximately 2" x 4"

I have recently become very interested in making books. Not sure where it came from. It is tedious work, but somehow very fulfilling. It all started with an according book kit that we actually bought for the decorative papers in it. From there I was hooked. I am now trying my hand on sewn books.

Recently, I started working on 2 little books (approx. 2″ x 4″). I really like the one on the right. I love the decorative paper on that one. It is marbalized paper from one of Ann’s paper sources (Mimi… don’t recall her last name)

Ann bought me some head tape yesterday, which I will use to finish the book on the right with. Head tape is really fabric tape, with one side have a roll on it. If you look at the top of a book, you see that little white fabric roll at the top. The bottom will also have the same roll of fabric.

I was not happy with the sewing of the paper I did initially (I was using copier paper, it is just not heavy enough), so I re-sewed a new insert last night using watercolor paper, which is a stiffer paper. I will then glue the head tape on and the paper and then glue the whole thing into the book.

If interested, here is a link to a page that shows how to actually make a book, from covers to sewing.
