Production Mode…

Yes, I am in production mode. What does that mean as an artist and gallery owner? Well, it means lots of time in the studio and testing out new ideas, materials, making great progress AND surviving not-so-successful mistakes. It means creating work that can be sold in the gallery and at shows, and it means working the gallery space to get the biggest bang for our buck in displays, inventory and wall space. It is busy, and fun and at the same time a learning experience. Here is a great saying that I used recently in a commissioned piece…

Being creative means being willing to make mistakes, being an artist means knowing which mistakes to keep!

One great creative story from history: the piece of marble that Michelangelo utilized to carve his great David sculpture was tossed out by another artist and sat in a field for fifteen years before Michelangelo saw it, had it moved to his studio, and began carving his masterpiece. So one man’s mistake was another man’s triumph! Time has an amazing impact on what was a ‘mistake’ and what could be a foundation for excellence.

Here’s to making mistakes and knowing which ones to keep, having the courage to make a mark on that expensive piece of paper, or use that pricey tube of paint/ink to move out in creativity and do something new. So stay tuned, the creative juices are flowing!!!
