“Funny what you see when you slow down!”

My husband and I were riding our bicycles near our home, and we were both admiring the scenery. We drive through the area where we were riding quite often, and yet had never really seen it. As we were commenting on the beautiful homes, landscaping and animals Kevin said, “Funny what you see when you slow down!”

How true is that!?! We spend our lives moving through the same patterns and routines each day, each week, each year and often miss most of the beauty around us. We cruise through time as if we are desperate to get where we are going, not making an effort to see and enjoy what we pass along the way. We miss the joy, peace and splendor of the world around us thinking that when we ‘get there’ we will slow down and enjoy it. Get where? Why are we in such a hurry to get there? Isn’t life all about the journey and not the destination? Too many of us get there to only find out that we don’t like where we have ended up, that our journey has brought us to an end in the road where we would rather not reside.

My encouragement to you is to take the time today, this afternoon to really see what is around you. What do you pass each day going to work, or to the store or even to your mailbox? What do you pass in your home that is beautiful, artful and inspiring?  What are you missing that could inspire you because you are in a hurry to ‘get there’? Take a deep breath, look at the beauty around you and then go create something to add to the beauty. Life is a journey, so don’t miss the voyage you are on because you are in too much of a hurry to get there!
